Ashok Selvan (born 8 November 1989) is an Indian actor who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. He gained recognition for his breakout role in the black comedy Soodhu Kavvum (2013), which was a commercial success and showcased his acting prowess. He further established himself with critically acclaimed performances in Pizza II: Villa (2013) and the thriller Thegidi (2014), both produced by C. V. Kumar. His natural screen presence and subtle performances earned him a loyal fan base and solidified his position as a promising actor in Tamil cinema.
Born in Chennimalai, Erode, Tamil Nadu, Ashok Selvan moved to Chennai at the age of three. He completed his schooling at Santhome Higher Secondary School, Chennai, and graduated with a degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College. During his college years, he actively participated in short films, acting in and directing several projects. His short film Green won Best Film at the 2012 International Tamil Youth Conference in Singapore, marking an early highlight in his creative journey.
Despite initial struggles and rejections, including failed auditions for Inidhu Inidhu, 19th Step, and Pizza, Ashok persevered. He worked briefly as an assistant director and made minor appearances, though some of his scenes were edited out. His big break came when director Nalan Kumarasamy cast him in Soodhu Kavvum after noticing him in a commercial. The film’s success opened doors for Ashok, who has since continued to take on diverse and challenging roles, steadily building a versatile career in the industry.
