She made her screenwriting debut in 2012 when she approached director Babar Javed with the script Ek Hatheli Pe Hina Ek Hatheli Pe Lahoo, which marked the beginning of her successful career. In the same year, she proposed an idea for a drama based on the dowry system in Pakistan, which was developed into the series Jahez and aired on Geo Entertainment. The series tackled societal injustices and brought Amna her first Lux Style Award nomination for Best Television Writer at the 12th Lux Style Awards.

In 2013, Amna adapted her own short story Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi for Hum TV, penning the screenplay for the project.
