Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, known as “Mr. Perfectionist”, recently recalled an emotional and amusing memory from his early life, revealing how Javed Miandad’s legendary last-ball six in the 1986 India-Pakistan cricket match affected the happiest day of his life—his wedding day. While talking openly in a new interview, Aamir shared how that unforgettable cricket moment ended up turning his joy into disappointment.
Aamir Khan shared that he met his first wife Reena Dutta when he was just 20 years old. She used to live in the building opposite his, and the two buildings were only about 100 meters apart. Aamir admitted that he would spend a lot of time sitting by the window just to catch a glimpse of her. His mother thought he was studying, but in reality, he was admiring Reena from afar. He also noticed that Reena often sat by her window too, which made him feel that she might be interested in him as well.

Later, a friend named Shilpa arranged a meeting between the two, but Aamir was heartbroken when Reena turned him down. He felt confused because if she wasn’t interested, why would she sit by the window so often? However, they eventually met again, and this time their bond grew stronger. But just four months later, Reena’s parents found out about their relationship and they decided to end things. Aamir said both of them were unhappy with this decision, which led them to secretly get married when he turned 21.
The most interesting part of Aamir’s story came when he revealed that the day of his secret wedding was also the day of the historic cricket match between India and Pakistan, played on April 10, 1986, in Sharjah. On that day, Javed Miandad famously hit a six off the last ball of the match, giving Pakistan a dramatic victory over India. Aamir recalled that everyone at both homes was busy watching the match, which is why no one noticed that the couple had gone out and gotten married.

Aamir said that he was extremely happy that day—not just because he had just gotten married, but also because India was about to win the match. But when Javed Miandad hit that last-ball six, India lost, and Aamir’s happiness turned into sadness. He remembered feeling so disappointed that the joy of his wedding day was overshadowed by the heartbreak of India’s defeat.
The actor shared that he even met Javed Miandad years later and told him about this incident. Aamir said, “Javed Bhai, you didn’t do the right thing!” When Javed asked him what he meant, Aamir jokingly replied, “You ruined my wedding day by hitting that six. I was so sad after that!” The story brought smiles and laughter but also highlighted how powerful and emotional cricket matches can be in South Asia, where people often link personal memories with big sports moments.
That famous match remains one of the most iconic moments in cricket history. Pakistan needed four runs on the last ball, and Javed Miandad smashed a six off Chetan Sharma, securing an unforgettable win for Pakistan. For Aamir Khan, however, that same moment brought unexpected disappointment on what should have been the happiest day of his life.
