In the year 2004, Velu began working on a film titled Kadhal Arangam which would highlight the caste system and explore sexuality prevailing in the Indian society.

Later, the film was released after Velu agreed to tone down the nude scenes and muted certain dialogues. However, the movie received negative reviews from the critics for its sluggish narration. In 2017, Velu directed the romantic thriller Oru Iyakkunarin Kadhal Diary starring himself and Pon Swathi in the lead roles.
