Emergency 911 Service Activated Across Pakistan During Floods

On the direct instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has immediately activated the 911 emergency helpline across Pakistan. This decision ensures that citizens can quickly reach emergency services during times of crisis.

The ministry has confirmed that the service will remain operational even in areas where mobile network towers are damaged or offline. This guarantees that people can still get urgent help, no matter how severe the local communication issues are.

Citizens in need of immediate assistance can dial 911 to report emergencies. However, officials have strongly requested the public to avoid making unnecessary calls. This will help keep the system free for those who genuinely need help, especially during disasters.

This step comes as devastating rains, flash floods, and cloudbursts continue to hit northern regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The floods have caused massive destruction, claiming more than 250 lives across these areas. In Buner alone, over 150 people have died, and many residents are still reported missing.

Entire villages have been washed away, homes destroyed, and floodwaters have carried off livestock and vehicles. Many survivors are stranded without basic necessities, as roads, bridges, and communication networks remain badly damaged.

In response to the worsening situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered that relief supplies be sent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a top priority. Trucks carrying essential goods such as food, water, and medical supplies are being dispatched immediately to support affected communities.

The government has also promised to speed up rescue operations, working alongside local authorities to reach stranded people, provide emergency medical care, and help rebuild damaged infrastructure. Officials urge everyone to cooperate with rescue teams and follow safety instructions to minimize further casualties during this national emergency.
