People across Pakistan can look forward to a three-day public holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha in 2025. This has been officially confirmed by the Cabinet Division in their holiday schedule for the year.
According to an official circular released on December 23, 2024, the Eid-ul-Adha holidays will be observed on Saturday, June 7, Sunday, June 8, and Monday, June 9. Since the holidays start on a weekend and continue into Monday, many people—especially those working in government offices—will enjoy a long weekend to celebrate with family and friends.
This announcement is part of the federal government’s complete list of public holidays for 2025. The long break is expected to bring joy to many, as Eid-ul-Adha is one of the most important religious festivals in the country. People usually travel to their hometowns, visit relatives, and take part in traditional animal sacrifices to honor the memory of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S).
SUPARCO Predicts Eid-ul-Adha Date Based on Moon Sighting
Before the official holiday announcement, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) shared important details about the expected moon sighting for Zil Hajj, the Islamic month in which Eid-ul-Adha takes place.
SUPARCO reported that the new moon of Zil Hajj is expected to be born on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 8:02 AM (Pakistan Standard Time). However, by the time the sun sets on that day, the moon will only be around 11 hours and 34 minutes old. This makes it too young to be seen—even if the skies are perfectly clear.
Because of this, SUPARCO stated that the moon will not be visible to the naked eye or even with telescopes anywhere in Pakistan on May 27. As a result, the 1st of Zil Hajj is expected to be on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Following this timeline, Eid-ul-Adha will likely be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025. This aligns with the official holiday dates announced by the government, allowing people to make early plans for travel, gatherings, and Eid celebrations.
