Authorities have issued a serious weather alert for Upper Punjab after forecasts indicated the possibility of a cloudburst. According to PTV reports, many districts across the province are also at risk of heavy flooding and dangerous landslides due to continuous rainfall. Officials have warned that the situation could worsen if rain intensity increases over the coming days.
To deal with this emergency, the government has deployed special monitoring teams at Smart Safe City centers throughout Punjab. These teams are responsible for keeping a constant watch on flood-prone areas and ensuring that rescue operations can be carried out immediately if needed. The advanced system allows officials to track weather changes and rainfall patterns in real time.
In districts like Murree and Rawalpindi, virtual patrolling officers are working day and night to monitor sensitive spots and high-risk locations. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is also being used to identify vulnerable areas where water levels could rise quickly or where landslides may occur. This modern system helps authorities take early action and minimize damage before the situation becomes uncontrollable.
Rawalpindi remains one of the most sensitive districts because of its streams and water channels, especially Nullah Lai, which has a history of flooding during heavy rains. The Safe City project has placed advanced surveillance cameras across the city to monitor the water flow and raise alarms if levels start rising dangerously. More than 600 cameras have been installed in Punjab, all connected to a central system that shares live updates with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). This ensures that rescue teams and local administrations are alerted immediately in case of an emergency.
Meanwhile, the government has issued safety guidelines for the public. Citizens are advised to remain indoors unless it is absolutely necessary to go outside. People are also warned to stay away from rivers, streams, low-lying areas, and electricity poles, as these can become extremely dangerous during floods. Authorities have stressed that following these instructions could save lives and reduce the risk of accidents.
The Safe City Authority has confirmed that every possible resource, including technology, rescue teams, and emergency plans, is being used to protect citizens from the dangers of severe weather. Officials have also assured that relief operations will be carried out swiftly if flooding or landslides occur. Residents are encouraged to stay calm but alert, keep an eye on official announcements, and report any unusual water activity in their areas to the nearest authorities.
