The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) is one of the most important programs in Pakistan that helps poor and needy families. It gives financial help to people who are struggling to afford basic needs like food, clothing, education, and healthcare. Many low-income families depend on this support to survive and manage their daily lives.
Over the years, BISP has become a key part of Pakistan’s social safety net. It plays a big role in reducing poverty and supporting people during tough times. Whether someone has lost a job, is sick, or can’t afford to send their kids to school, BISP is there to give them a helping hand.
The Benazir Income Support Program is more than just a financial aid program. It gives hope, dignity, and support to those who need it the most. The planned increase in the budget, cash payments, and number of beneficiaries will make a big difference in the lives of poor families across Pakistan.
With better transparency, easier access to funds, and more focus on health and education, BISP is moving in the right direction. It shows that the government is taking serious steps to fight poverty and build a more inclusive society.
Government Plans to Increase BISP Budget
For the next financial year, the government is planning to set aside Rs 716 billion for the BISP program. This is a very large amount, showing the government’s commitment to helping the poor.
But that’s not all. Due to rising prices and the growing number of families in need, the government is also considering a 20% increase in the BISP budget. If approved, this increase will begin in the next fiscal year.
This larger budget will allow BISP to help more people, increase the cash payments, and make sure the process of giving out the money is safe, clear, and fair.
What Will Change in the Program?
Here are the main changes that the government is planning to make in the BISP program:
1. More Cash for Families
Starting from January 2026, the monthly payment that families receive from BISP will go up by Rs 1,000. This will make a real difference in helping people deal with daily expenses.
Right now, families receive Rs 13,500 every three months (quarterly). With the new plan, this will increase to Rs 14,500 every three months.
This increase is very important because prices of food, fuel, and other items are going up. If the payments stay the same, families won’t be able to buy as much. That’s why BISP will also keep adjusting the payments based on inflation, so the money keeps its value.
2. More Families Will Get Help
Another important goal is to increase the number of families receiving help. Under the Kafalat program, the government wants to reach 10 million families (1 crore).
So far, about 700,000 new families have already been added to the program during the current financial year. This is a good start, and it shows that the government is serious about expanding the program.
Many poor households in far-off areas don’t even know they qualify for help. The expansion will focus on finding and enrolling those families who really need support but have not been included yet.
3. Better and Safer Payments
To make sure the money reaches the right people and there is no cheating or delay, BISP will start working with new banking partners. These banks will help make the payment system more secure and transparent.
Also, the program will use multiple platforms like mobile apps, ATMs, and branchless banking. This will make it easier for families to get their money, especially those living in remote villages or without access to a bank.
People will be able to choose from different payment methods depending on what is easiest for them. This will save time and reduce problems like long waiting lines or payment errors.
4. Support from Health and Education Budgets
The government also plans to spend Rs 3,156 billion on health and education in the upcoming budget. This is connected to BISP’s mission because financial help alone is not enough.
When families get free or affordable healthcare and education, their overall quality of life improves. Children can go to school, mothers can get proper care during pregnancy, and people can stay healthy without spending too much money.
So, by combining BISP with better health and education services, the government hopes to create a stronger support system for millions of families.
