The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has officially announced that the intermediate examinations, which were scheduled to be held this coming Wednesday, have been postponed. This change comes after the Sindh government declared May 28 a public holiday to observe a special day called Youm-e-Takbeer. Because of this public holiday, the board decided it would be best to reschedule the exams to avoid any inconvenience for the students.
The decision to postpone the exams was made under the direction of the BIEK Chairman, Ghulam Hussain Soho. He carefully reviewed the situation and instructed the board to shift the affected papers to a later date. The postponement mainly affects students in the Science Pre-Medical and Science General groups, whose exams were planned for May 28. These students will now take their exams on May 30.
Looking at the revised exam schedule in detail, Botany Paper I is one of the main exams impacted by this change. This exam is for students who are taking either the new course or the old course, as well as for those who have previously failed and are retaking the test. Originally, this Botany paper was set for May 28, with the exam time from 9:00 in the morning to 11:00 a.m. The new plan is to hold this exam on May 30 during the same hours, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Another important change concerns the English exams. The English (Normal) Paper I, which includes students enrolled in both the new and old courses and also those who need to retake the paper, was initially scheduled to be held on May 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This exam will now take place on May 30, but the timing has shifted slightly to start at 3:00 p.m. and finish at 6:00 p.m. Along with this, the English Advanced Paper I for students who have failed before will also be held on the same day and time, May 30 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The board also made it clear that even though the dates and times have changed, there will be no changes in the examination centers. Students are expected to appear at the same centers where they were originally assigned to take their exams. So, there is no need for students to worry about changing their exam locations or any additional travel arrangements.
It’s important to understand why May 28 has been declared a public holiday. This date is observed as Youm-e-Takbeer across the country and holds great historical significance for Pakistan. The Cabinet Division had officially announced this holiday last year, making it a gazetted public holiday recognized nationwide.
Youm-e-Takbeer commemorates a very important event in Pakistan’s history. On May 28, 1998, Pakistan successfully conducted nuclear tests, becoming the seventh country in the world to possess nuclear weapons. This achievement was not only a major scientific and military milestone but also made Pakistan the first Islamic country to develop nuclear weapons. The day symbolizes Pakistan’s strength and sovereignty, and it is observed with great respect and pride by people all over the country.
In summary, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi has adjusted the exam schedule to respect this significant holiday and to ensure students can observe the day without any exam-related stress. Students affected by this change should note the new exam dates—May 30 for the Botany and English papers—and make necessary preparations accordingly.
If students or their families have any questions about the rescheduling, they should contact their respective examination centers or the board’s official office for confirmation and further guidance.
