For many Pakistanis dreaming of a trip to Europe, choosing the right country to apply for a visa is an important first step. Germany has stood out as the most welcoming and successful Schengen destination for Pakistani travelers. Whether you’re planning to explore Berlin’s rich history, attend business events, or reunite with family, Germany has made it easier for Pakistanis to enter Europe legally and confidently.
Drop in Visa Applications – But Pakistan Still Among Top Applicants
According to the latest data from official Schengen visa statistics, a total of 78,362 Schengen visa applications were submitted by Pakistani citizens. This number is 9.61% lower than the applications submitted in 2023, which shows a noticeable decline. The drop may be due to several reasons, including rising visa costs, global inflation, changes in travel preferences, or increased awareness of stricter visa policies in some countries.
However, despite the decline, Pakistan still ranked 28th in the world when it came to the total number of Schengen visa applications. This ranking highlights that a significant number of Pakistanis are still eager to travel to Europe for tourism, education, business, or family visits.
Germany – The Top Choice for Pakistani Applicants
Among all Schengen countries, Germany was the clear favorite for Pakistani residents in 2024. Out of the total applications, 20,570 were sent to German embassies and consulates. This made Germany the most preferred Schengen destination for Pakistanis by a large margin.
But what made Germany even more appealing was not just the number of applications—it was the high approval rate. Germany approved 14,051 visas for Pakistani applicants, which means more than two-thirds (68.31%) of the applications were successful. This is one of the highest success rates among all Schengen countries and is especially encouraging for Pakistani travelers who want to avoid rejections and delays.
Other Schengen Countries and Pakistan’s Overall Visa Success
While Germany led the way, other Schengen countries also granted thousands of visas to Pakistanis. In total, 38,892 Schengen visas were approved for Pakistani residents in 2024 across all European countries in the Schengen zone.
On the other hand, Sweden received the lowest number of applications from Pakistan—only 215 in the entire year. This could mean that Sweden is either seen as less accessible or less attractive to Pakistani travelers compared to countries like Germany, Italy, or France.
Improvement in Rejection Rates – A Positive Sign
One of the most encouraging trends for Pakistani travelers was the improvement in visa rejection rates. Compared to the previous year, more Pakistani applications were approved and fewer were rejected, which shows a growing level of trust and cooperation between Pakistani travelers and European visa authorities.
The data also reveals that for every 1,000 Pakistani residents, about 0.18% were granted a Schengen visa. While this might seem like a small number at first glance, it actually reflects a positive shift when you consider the size of Pakistan’s population and the number of people eligible to travel internationally.
What This Means for Future Travelers
These numbers are a valuable guide for Pakistani citizens planning to visit Europe in the coming months or years. Since Germany has proven to be the most successful destination in terms of visa approvals, travelers may want to consider submitting their applications through the German embassy if their travel plans allow it.
Additionally, this trend shows that being well-prepared, submitting complete documents, and applying to the right country can greatly increase your chances of getting a Schengen visa. Many experts also suggest applying early, having a clear travel itinerary, and showing strong ties to your home country—such as a stable job, business, or family—to improve your approval chances.
For Pakistanis looking to travel to Europe, Germany stands out as the best and most successful choice in 2024. Whether you’re planning to visit for tourism, study, or family, keeping Germany at the top of your list could save you time, stress, and increase your chances of approval.
