Bangladesh Announce 16-Member Squad for Asia Cup 2025

Bangladesh Announce 16-Member Squad for Asia Cup 2025

Bangladesh have officially revealed their 16-member squad for next month’s Asia Cup, becoming the third major cricketing nation to confirm its lineup for the highly anticipated tournament. The announcement has already sparked conversations among fans and analysts, especially because of a few surprising selections and exclusions.

One of the most notable inclusions is wicketkeeper-batter Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, who makes his comeback to T20 international cricket after nearly three years. The 31-year-old last played in the format during the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. Since then, he has been on the sidelines but continued to perform consistently in domestic cricket. His recall signals Bangladesh’s intent to strengthen their middle order with experience and stability as they prepare for a busy season of international cricket.

The team will be led by Litton Das, who has been entrusted with guiding the Tigers on this important campaign. Before the Asia Cup begins, the squad will face the Netherlands in a three-match T20I series. This will serve as a crucial preparation phase, allowing the players to find form and rhythm before heading into the regional tournament.

In the Asia Cup, Bangladesh have been placed in Group B alongside Afghanistan, Hong Kong, and defending champions Sri Lanka. It is considered a challenging group, as all three opponents are capable of producing upsets. Sri Lanka, with their strong T20 record, remain the favorites, while Afghanistan’s spin attack is seen as a major threat. Hong Kong, on the other hand, will aim to prove themselves against higher-ranked teams.

Interestingly, the selectors have named Soumya Sarkar, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Tanvir Islam, and Hasan Mahmud as standby players for the Asia Cup. The exclusion of Mehidy Hasan Miraz from the main squad has raised eyebrows, especially since he played a key role in Bangladesh’s recent home-series victory against Pakistan. His absence is being viewed as one of the bigger talking points, with many suggesting that the team management is experimenting with different combinations ahead of future tournaments.

With eight teams competing in this year’s Asia Cup, including cricketing powerhouses India and Pakistan, the tournament promises high-intensity clashes. For Bangladesh, this competition is not just about regional pride but also about long-term planning. The Tigers are already keeping an eye on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, and strong performances in the Asia Cup could boost both confidence and team combinations ahead of that global event.

Bangladesh’s recent series win over Pakistan has given the players much-needed belief. If the squad can maintain its momentum and key players rise to the occasion, fans may witness Bangladesh pulling off a few surprises in the tournament.
