Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has made history in the Asia Cup after guiding his team to the Super Fours stage without losing a single match. The young left-arm pacer has not only helped India stay undefeated but has also added his name to the list of cricketing records.
Arshdeep played his first match of the tournament against Oman. Even though he bowled four overs and picked up only one wicket, that single breakthrough turned out to be a very special one. By dismissing Oman’s batter Vinayak Shukla for just one run, Arshdeep reached his 100th wicket in T20 internationals (T20Is). This milestone made him the third-fastest bowler in history to take 100 wickets in T20Is and the fastest pace bowler to do so among the ICC’s Full Member nations.
The 26-year-old achieved the landmark in just 64 matches, beating Pakistan’s Haris Rauf, who took 71 games to get there. With this achievement, Arshdeep also became the first Indian bowler ever to claim 100 wickets in T20 internationals. His record now stands at an average of 18.49 runs per wicket, an economy rate of 8.31 runs per over, and his best bowling figures remain 4 wickets for 9 runs.
Currently, the fastest to reach 100 T20I wickets is Rashid Khan of Afghanistan, who reached the milestone in only 53 matches. He is followed by Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga with 63 games, while Arshdeep Singh now takes the third spot with 64 matches. Behind him are Haris Rauf with 71 and Ireland’s Mark Adair with 72 matches.
Fastest to 100 T20I Wickets (Full Member Teams):
- Rashid Khan – 53 matches
- Wanindu Hasaranga – 63 matches
- Arshdeep Singh – 64 matches
- Haris Rauf – 71 matches
- Mark Adair – 72 matches
With this, Arshdeep Singh has now moved ahead of some of India’s top bowlers in the T20 format. He has overtaken Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal, who are both on 96 wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah is slightly behind at 92 wickets.
Interestingly, both Arshdeep and Haris Rauf did not get many opportunities to play earlier in the Asia Cup. However, with the Super Fours stage beginning, the two fast bowlers may find themselves bowling against each other soon, which will be an exciting contest for cricket fans.
For now, the spotlight belongs to Arshdeep Singh, who is proving to be one of India’s most dependable fast bowlers in the shortest format. His achievement not only brings pride to Indian cricket but also shows how the next generation of pacers is building on the country’s strong bowling legacy, one wicket at a time.
