Air Punjab Launch Plans: Destinations, Ticket Prices, and Start Date Announced

The working committee in charge of establishing Air Punjab, the province’s much-anticipated airline project, has officially presented its initial report to the Punjab government. This report outlines a comprehensive plan that covers the airline’s financial model, operational framework, staffing structure, and proposed launch schedule. The initiative marks an important step in the government’s mission to strengthen Punjab’s transportation system and enhance air connectivity both within Pakistan and abroad.

According to the committee’s findings, the estimated total investment required for setting up Air Punjab ranges between Rs. 12 billion and Rs. 15 billion. This budget includes the cost of aircraft leasing, staff salaries, maintenance, marketing, and airport operations. In the initial stage, the airline plans to lease five state-of-the-art Airbus A320 aircraft, known for their safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort. Each aircraft will cost approximately $375,000 per month, resulting in an annual leasing expenditure of around Rs. 6.3 billion.

To ensure smooth and professional operations, the committee has emphasized hiring highly qualified aviation professionals. As part of this, pilot salaries will range from Rs. 1.5 million to Rs. 2.5 million per month, depending on their experience and flying hours. This salary range is considered competitive in the aviation market and is aimed at attracting skilled Pakistani pilots currently employed abroad, as well as international professionals seeking opportunities in Pakistan’s growing aviation sector.

In its first operational phase, Air Punjab plans to operate direct flights from Lahore to three major destinations — Karachi, Dubai, and Jeddah. These routes have been carefully selected based on their strong travel demand, both for business and religious purposes. The ticket fares are expected to be around Rs. 15,000 for domestic routes, Rs. 40,000 for Dubai, and Rs. 50,000 for Jeddah. The government believes that these competitive prices will make air travel more accessible for passengers while maintaining the airline’s financial viability.

The committee’s report also highlights that Air Punjab will operate under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. This approach will allow the provincial government to work alongside private investors to share financial responsibilities, management duties, and operational expertise. The PPP model is expected to ensure transparency, reduce financial risks, and promote efficiency. Furthermore, the project is projected to generate thousands of employment opportunities in fields such as aircraft maintenance, air traffic control, customer service, catering, and logistics. The government expects this initiative to provide a major boost to Punjab’s economy by creating new business opportunities and encouraging foreign and local investment in the aviation industry.

Additionally, Air Punjab aims to focus on high-quality passenger services and modern in-flight facilities, including comfortable seating, digital entertainment options, and improved customer support. The airline’s vision is to provide a flying experience that matches international standards, ensuring safety, punctuality, and convenience for travelers.

According to the proposed project timeline, Air Punjab is expected to launch its first flight by September next year. The next few months will focus on finalizing aircraft lease agreements, hiring essential staff, completing safety certifications, and setting up operational infrastructure at Lahore Airport. Once operational, Air Punjab will play a key role in improving regional connectivity, supporting tourism, and facilitating easier travel for overseas Pakistanis visiting from the Middle East.

The launch of Air Punjab is being seen as a transformative project for the province. It not only promises to enhance mobility and promote trade but also represents a long-term investment in Pakistan’s aviation future. With careful planning, strong leadership, and a focus on customer satisfaction, Air Punjab could soon become a symbol of progress and pride for the people of Punjab, setting a new benchmark for regional air travel.
