ISLAMABAD: In a significant move to accommodate students during the holy month of Ramazan, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced an extension of the admission deadline for various academic programs. The university administration took this decision in response to numerous requests from students who faced difficulties in completing the enrollment process on time due to fasting and other religious commitments.
According to an official press release issued on Thursday, students appealed to the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, to extend the deadline, allowing them more time to register for their desired programs. Acknowledging the importance of accessibility in education, the Vice Chancellor approved the extension, setting April 10, 2025, as the new deadline for admissions.
This extension applies to several programs, including Matriculation (Matric), Intermediate (FA), Associate Degree programs, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Postgraduate Diploma courses, and various certificate programs. New applicants can now secure admission with a late fee until the revised deadline.
Additionally, continuing students who are already enrolled in these programs but have yet to complete their registration can also take advantage of this extended period. The university aims to ensure that no student is left behind due to time constraints, particularly during a month of spiritual and religious observance.
Director Admissions, Syed Zia-ul-Hasnain, clarified that enrollment for face-to-face programs offered in the Spring 2025 semester has already been finalized. Therefore, no further admissions will be accepted for these programs. However, students still have the opportunity to apply for distance learning programs, which continue to welcome new applicants.
AIOU, being a pioneer in open and distance learning in Pakistan, remains committed to providing flexible educational opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. University officials have urged all prospective and continuing students to complete their registrations before the final deadline to avoid any disruption in their academic progress.
