New Rules for Private Schools: Fee Hikes, Uniforms, and More

The District Education Authority (DEA) Lahore has issued a clear notice to all private schools with new guidelines aimed at protecting students and parents from unfair practices. According to the latest orders, private schools are not allowed to increase their fees by more than 5% in a year. This decision has been taken to ensure that education remains affordable for families.

The official letter also strictly bans schools from collecting more than one month’s fee at a time. This means schools can only ask for one month’s fee in advance — not three or six months like some have done in the past. This rule is meant to reduce the financial burden on parents and prevent schools from misusing their authority.

In addition, the education authority has made it clear that no student can be expelled from school just because their parents were late in paying the fee. The government wants to make sure that children are not punished for their family’s financial difficulties.

The DEA has also warned schools not to charge extra money for summer camps. Running summer camps and demanding additional payments for them is now considered illegal. Parents should not be forced to pay for any activities outside the regular academic session.

Another important point in the notice is that schools cannot pressure parents to buy books or uniforms from specific shops. Some schools have reportedly forced parents to purchase costly items from selected vendors, but this practice is now officially banned. Parents are free to choose where to buy their children’s educational materials.

If any school is found breaking these rules, the authorities will take strict legal action against them under the applicable education laws. The District Education Authority has said it will closely monitor schools and respond to any complaints from parents.

These steps have been welcomed by many parents who have long demanded fair treatment from private schools. The new regulations are aimed at bringing transparency, fairness, and relief to families across Lahore.
